Sewing Center: Integrating Hope, Talent, and Faith in the Lives of Young Women of Pakistan

Christian communities in Pakistan, in particular, face economic and social adversity. One Vision Society and Independent Evangelical Ministries opened up the ‘Christian Sewing Center’ as a social initiative to help young girls and women gain self-worth, education, and purpose in life. The sewing center was named after the first sewing machine to symbolize the importance of sewing and stitching to transform and empower the women of the sewing center. The initiative aims to provide vocational training to women in Pakistan that opens economic opportunities. The sewing center functions as a social and community sewing machine, where all the women and girls come together to create social change, helping the community in different ways. The movement is built around the Christian faith.

Our aim is to create a positive social change in the people and the community to help women and girls gain self-worth and skill that pushes them to embrace change and help the community. The purpose of the sewing center is:

  • To provide vocational training to the women and girls in Pakistan.

  • To promote education, entrepreneurship and empowerment of women and girls.

  • To disciple and collaborate with the Christian community.

  • To help Christian communities focus on sustainable social development.

Every woman has the potential to thrive, and there is no reason to believe that could not happen.

📚 Our 6-Month Program: Skill and Self-Sufficiency

Understanding the real needs of the community is the guiding principle behind the program. The integration of the various components of the program, which includes technical training, cultivating creativity, business studies, and spiritual development, equips the participant to tackle the future with optimism.

✂️ Core Sewing & Tailoring Skills

Every training program is anchored on developing the basic techniques. For sewing and tailoring, where the home-based business and family income contribution is the primary goal, these are building confidence and competence.

  • Safe and precise handling of sewing machines

  • Accurate measuring, cutting, and stitching of garments

  • Effective reading and application of clothing patterns

  • Garment construction for women, men, children, and traditional garments

  • Garment alterations and repairs

These are essential and highly demanded, low-cost services.

👗 Specialized and Boutique Skills

Motivation for new knowledge and skills is fueled by the completion of basic skills and techniques. These are critical for entry into the boutique custom fashion industry.

  • Boutique-style dresses and custom outfits

  • Hand embroidery, decorative stitching, and other advanced techniques

  • Creative presentation of bridal and formal wear

Graduation with these skills places a sewer in advanced, specialized, and premium markets.

🏠 Product Creation at Home

We appreciate the need for home-based work for women in Pakistan. Our program covers the following training:

  • Sewing home textiles like curtains, bed sheets, and cushion covers

  • Making handbags, aprons, and fashion accessories

  • Creating baby items like bibs, blankets, soft toys, and baby clothes

  • Producing uniforms for schools, clinics, and businesses

These items contribute to a home-based work opportunity, where women can earn income and profit.

💼 Entrepreneurship and Business Skills

For sustainable development, we include essential business and marketing skills training:

  • Basics of small business development and pricing products

  • Local fairs and social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook for marketing

  • Customer relationship management and inventory control

  • Creative upcycling and fabric repurposing for profit

These skills enable women to become business owners and economically active participants in their communities.

More than 60 girls and women have gone through the Christian Sewing Center training, and in this current 2025 session, we are training 40 more girls, each with different stories of hope and resilience.
